Some more progress... kinda
So I gave myself time to think about my design and how it could work.
I've also used a wide variety of shorts to figure out...
"What do I really want from them"
I've used them all in a wide range of environments and activities and from this I've narrowed it down to the very ideas that I had at the start of the course...
Simplicity around the movement of the human body.
The Ido portal method.
Now...
If you've found this blog through my Instagram page and you're reading this thinking...
"Why the fuck is James taking a sportswear design course in order to make things to the form and movement of the human body. That's just everyday shit"
EXACTLY
As human beings we are designed to move and stretch when our bodies are relatively healthy.
However through everyday life or average Joe you would think...
"He isn't active! He dosent play. He isn't free" And in some sense
You're right!
He isn't active everyday he might go for a run or go to his local gym every once in a while but he dosent hunt on his feet running miles and miles everyday just so he can eat. All he needs to do if there's no food in the house is...
Get in his car
Drive to a fast food store
Go into the drive through
Order his food
And when they say
"Are you going to be eating in the car?"
He ashamedly nods his head and says yes.
And then he can drive home with a Big mac in his mouth... (Lets face it we've all done it)
However
If you've watched the Karate kid...
You will know that movement is everywhere
Kung Fu is everwhere, its everything, its in everyone.
And that is the philosophy that I want behind my shorts....
Simple
If they can be worn for any movement the body can perform...
Even in Ido Portals extreme expressive and Impressive years of practice.
Then arguably you would have a pair of shorts or an item of clothing that can be worn for any activity.
You still need to sort out materials for whatever weather or conditions could come its way but you're on the right track.
Which brings me to one of the main problems I found with all of my "Non Flex" pairs of shorts.
And that's the restriction that they provide when your legs are at more than a 100 degree angle to each other.
This is actually an interesting topic to try and fix without using ONLY an flexible material.
I'm talking about combining non stretch and stretch fabrics together in the simplest of ways.
Dark blue is non stretch
Light Blue is Stretch
So that's what I'm focusing on...
Allowing the legs to move with as freedom as they can whilst still providing he benifits of Non stretc materials.
And to Keep it simple stupid.
