Finisterre Flower design
So I was doing some research (yes seriously) about what types of plants grow in Iran on land and in the sea.
What I found was a selection of options in which I could incorporate into my work.
Parrotia:
Eryngium Giganteum:
Red Rose:
Tulip:
So after looking at some plant species, I was looking for something that would be recognisable to people looking at the garment pattern, and something that could have a deeper meaning to the country of Iran. And from these shapes I determined that the Rose and the Tulip were the most suitable. The Rose is actually the national flower of Iran and the Tulip is the national emblem for the country as well.
It is also useful because they look so similar which allows me to explore into how I can artistically combine the two of them for a pattern design.
So I had a little experiment in my sketchbook.
I tried to incorporate (Big word) the idea of the rolling wave into the image so I could combine the land and the sea together. I did this with experimenting with that classic spiral shape, that you see in all those surfing videos, where surfers are moving through the wave as if they are moving through
life.

To be honest my drawings look more like those swirly little sweets I used to eat on the way home from primary school sometimes. I would only get them if I was a good boy.
Like a dog being given a treat...
