Sea swimming in october
Today for about the third time this month I decided to go sea swimming with some friends in the middle of autumn. The idea being that it is supposed to be fun
And it is
Its also very cold
Like you get out of the water and when you get changed you wonder whether you are a man or not.
...COLD...
Because I didn't bring a wet suit down with me to uni, I decided to only wear my swimming trunks because I don't like the idea of hiring a wet suit because you just know the last person who used it...
pissed in it
Come on we all do.
Its when you have a heated seat in a car... you suddenly turn it on and, lets just say you are relieved.
We all went swimming down at Gylly Beach.
The tide was nearly completely out which meant that it would take much longer to actually get into the sea. So you had plenty of time to turn around and kiss the cold English sea goodbye.
But because James runs so fast... He ended up charging through the shallow water before it was possible to belly flop into the sea without face planting onto the sandy surface below.

But there were a lot of waves so you couldn't help but pretend that you were having a cheeky little surf.
It did make me curious though because after the typical British tourists remark of
1. Dipping your toes in to see how cold it is
2. Say that its "Quite nippy"
3. Shortly followed by "Ooooo I don't know"
4. Then giving up and quickly dunking your shoulders in
5. Standing up very quickly almost like a meerkat shivering and gasping at the same time.
6. Then actually trying to swim
7. And then the world renound remark of "ITS ALRIGHT WHEN YOU GET IN!!!"
Because it is true that after getting used the cold water the body has a brief period of numbness where the swimmer actually feels warm.
It makes me wonder...
Do we piss ourselves in shock???
Okay maybe not
But it did make think about how cool a pair of insulated maybe even heated swimming shorts would be. Especially if they dried quickly because we all hate that feeling of cold wet fabric grazing the back of the drying legs as you desperately shiver inside a towel that is covered in sand.
This would mean that they would have to be tight fitting to the body like Speedos.
And would the heating element heat the water or the fabric?
