Music for story

I've mentioned before that I personally feel like the score for the film is one of the most important aspects for when setting the mood.

So I thought I should go about describing some key moods (moments) in the story that needs to be summed up in song.

1. The basic version.
This would be for when the audience is being introduced to the basic version of the character.
For this I would want something basic. Probably a simple hip hop beat with a basic bass line. This beat and bass line can be timed with the footsteps of the character in the follow shots, almost to signify the start of the journey.

2. The two versions.
The two characters will need to have similar pieces of music playing over the top. It could even be the same piece of music. For example the more "successful" character could have a faster beat with a higher tone and pitch to make it sound happier and more energetic, where as the "run down" version would have the opposite.

3. The twist.
This idea comes from an idea my Dad gave me when he was "trying" to teach me how to play the piano... This was minor and major versions of the keys. Which in basic terms is what the difference between the characters are... polar opposites... However done correctly the sound can come across as slightly broken... like there is something hidden between the lines that makes the story just that little bit more unorthodox. So this could still be the same melody however with just one note in a minor or major place, changing the entire tone for the scene.
