The Hamster Wheel

So I have a massive problem with the gym and most gyms in general in the way that they are used.

Gyms are designed for the Human being to be able to stay in good shape with relative ease.
And it is easy because everything is tailor made to make sure that you target a specific muscle group or to make you burn calories at a constant rate...

The is nothing unique about any gym its always the same which is why you get gym stereotypes.

1. The Jacked guy who literally curls dumbbells his entire life and then claims to be aesthetic.
Your're not
Your just someone who has become excessively good at lifting things with your arms bending.

2. The matt hoes who spend the entire time lying on the matts in the corner of the gym on their phones usually with a friend and occasionally doing that one exercise when you extend your legs out behind you because it makes your butt look bigger. I mean I don't want to be sexist here but unfortunately it is literally always girls that do this.
Like dude... I need to stretch out and use the foam rollers, I need the matt more than your texting ass.

3. The Walker. To the people who literally go to the gym just to walk for 15 mins on a treadmill...
Why?
If you want to go for a walk go outside and explore!
Don't just walk slowly uphill and text. Your doing the teenager equivalent of walking back from school.

I could go on but I'm definelty pushing the boundaries here in expressing my opinion.
And I don't want to offend anyone.

My main problem with the gym though is the use of repeated exercises. Reps, Sets, etc...
Like your just in a continuous cycle of moving a limb in the exact same way until it gets tired.
Now you might say
"But James isn't running a repeated exercise? You're a massive hypocrite you asshole"

Nope
Only if you're on a treadmill
Where you are just running in a straight line... for eternity...
Yay
Running outside is different. You're constantly adapting to the surface you are running on, the hills the corners and in some cases obstacles that require you to make a conscious decision about how to tackle the problem...
On  a treadmill you just set a pace and an incline (if your feeling fancy) and stick in some headphones and basically run until you get bored.

When I'm in the gym usiing free weights for example I just think... Omg where all just hamsters in a running wheel in a cage. I find myself feeling quite depressed after this.
When I think of good and unique training I think Ido Portal and his movement training.
Yes its inside and yes people do it in groups but it implies large movements that are all unique and provide functional strength unlike some forms of weightlifting and protein.
Ido uses the Olympic rings used in gymnastics a lot and it engages all the muscles in the body and works on functional strength as well and balance/control. This has led to me using the rings and almost immediately I saw functional strength results.

Rant over
Go outside
Try to avoid being a hamster in a cage
Sorry if anyone felt "offended by this"
Just my opinion
