MMA and the UFC
I do wish that UFC aired at a better time in the UK rather than 3am.
I literally have to wake up in the morning at watch the highlights which is no where near as entertaining. I'm more likely to accidentally see who wins in the recommendation bar in a YouTube video.
Watching the UFC on fight night is like a massive MMA lesson if you watch all the fights.
The fighters fight in weight divisions to make the fights as physically fair as possible. Other wise you could get a huge dude against a wee boy with a big ego.
So for example I weigh 175lbs so currently I would fight at welter weight. (However if I had time to prepare and train properly I could cut down to Light weight or buff up to a Stronger Welter weight.
I started watching MMA around two years ago (yes I'm a Conor Mcgregor fan boy) and I very quickly got involved having had other experience in other martial arts before.
(James is secretly violent)
My favourites in the UFC recently been the fight between T.J Dillashaw vs Cody Garbrant (c).
The sheer hate in the lead up to the fight was weird to watch especially considering that the pair were once partners in the Team Alpha Male gym... Yes, that's what its called
How "masculine".
The fight met its hype as well. Cody has always been incredibly fast as a counter puncher with quick footwork, with a piston for a right hand. And T.J showed his true arsenal in techniques and different ways he can attack his opponents which is in nearly any way at all.
T.J was showing the sheer power in his kicks for a while whilst Cody as waiting for the right moment to strike. However T.J was able to rattle Cody in the second round with a "vErY nIcE" head kick, which led to T.J catching Cody with a mean left hook to the jaw which led to a short moment of ground a pond before the ref stopped the fight as a K.O.
Then we got one of the best photo's in combat sports this year.
Awesome demonstration of strength in a Bantamweight title fight.
Then there was the coolest submission from Mighty Mouse which was a Fucking arm bar in mid air.
Which I didn't even think was possible in the current laws of physics.
I mean that's just going to fall off then
And last but not least was Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Rose Namajunas...
I watched the lead up to this fight thinking "Rose has no chance beating Joanna" I'm not even going to bother trying to spell your last name again.
The pre fight pres confrences and the weigh ins showed Joanna being very cocky and dominant over the very quiet Rose who wasn't saying much if anything.
Joe Rogan did mention that during the stare downs Rose was whispering the Lords prayer whilst Joanna was taunting her. Which is creepy as hell.
The fight only lasted one round and it was Rose who was dominant showing composure and skill.
And the K.O. was pretty good as well...
Fucking brutal, Rose landed that knee to the face as Joanna went down by the way.
