Finisterre research
To start off my research I had to get off the mark be fully conceptualising what I was coming to be designing on to and the environment it was going to be used it.
As I still don't know what my customer profile is, I am limited in knowing what environment it is going to be used in. It could be for protection against the sun or as something to keep warm in.
I decided to look at how patterns have been used to interact with the human body in the past.
The first thing that jumped into my mind was tattoos that are made to run with certain parts of the body or simply just flow with the human body's natural shape

I looked at Tattoo artists like Chris Crooks (Above) and Lewis Ink (Below) in their use of patterns and how they work with the human form.
Chris's use of colour really brings his Japanese inspired work to life. He uses a lot of old Japanese mythology in his work with e.g his use of dragons and gods. The image's that he plants seem to run with the humans form as well. For example notice how the image (above) is restricted to the sleeve and the left chest.
Lewis Ink as a different approach to this and... clearly he dosent use colour which means his work is highly contrasted in Black and white. He is much more "pattern" based with his use of shapes. And again his work works with the body to create a better image.
I think going about this pattern design in the way a Tattoo artist would when creating an original pattern design would actually be a pretty good idea. As it can be full of detail and it could work with the human form.
Again this reminds me of the Artist Kerby Rosanes and his detailed work.
Thinking about it now his work would make for really good Tattoo designs
