Design of cars 2017 (what went wrong?)

When I was younger I was a massive car fan
A huge car fan and arguably I still am but no where near as before.

Now you might be thinking...
"BUT JAMES THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SPORTSWEAR BLOG WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING!" 

 

Well if you just wait a second I can make my point and the world can live in harmony again... 

Also Tom told me to... 

 

I have a strong feeling that cars will never have the unique and daring design that they used to do. 

Car manufacturers tend to play it safe to make a car that is practical, quiet and handsome... basically playing it safe. 

Take Lamborghini for example if we look into the past we see cars from out of a crazy sci-fi movie with jet fighters, loud explosions and Roger Moore. I'll use the Countache as an example... 

 

First of all look at how wide it is... I struggle to bay park my little Suzuki that I drive at home but this is just madness. Plus considering that you cant see out of the back. I imagine that its like the docking scene from interstellar when you're parking it in a space that's three spaces wide.

But that's the point in a way, its supposed to be mad and unpractical. Its like its too good for your parking and requires a throne to sit in rather than the disabled space at the front of Tesco.  

Now lets look at a new Lamborghini... 

 

This is the Aventador and immediately I can say with confidence that I mildly dislike it. I don't even not like it, I don't have a strong feeling about it, it just exists... and its a Lambo. 

That's not right.  

When you look at a Lamborghini or indeed any super/hyper car you should be blown away yet here I'm not. It looks safe and precise rather than the raging bull that a Lambo is supposed to be. Its more like a cow that can run just that little bit faster... in orange.  

In fact I struggled to even find a super car made this year that actually struck me! They are all commercialised, and sell-able now like a house pet when really they should be an exotic animal that you keep outside as its to dangerous to leave near the house.  

 

The new Pagani Huarya was the closest thing I could find to a new super car that has just been released that actually has guts. I would be afraid to drive this look at it. It's headlight look like those of a huge spider that you find in the jungle rather than your shower at home. Even in black and white it looks amazing. 

And that's what most super cars these days are missing... character 

This is something that I will need to look out for in my own work. Sometimes practicality and precision are the worst things to have as they are characteristics of a machine.
