First Run through Penryn and Falmouth
So for me running is one of my favourite sports to do.
I used to do a lot of running at home and I had been a little bit sceptical at first about running in my new home as I thought I would get lost. So I had to actually plan a route for the first time in ages which felt a bit strange.
When I had finished planning the route I then had to figure out how I needed to dress to match the conditions that I was running in.
The terrain that I would be running on was a mix of tarmac and some light trail (off road) surfaces.
It was also quite a cold day at 16 degrees Celsius.
Due to the mixed terrain I decided to wear my Under Armour Speed form Gemini 2's. Now these are normally road running shoes however because the planned off road aspects of the run were supposed to be in dry conditions I didn't think there would be any problem with loss of grip or mud sticking to the shoe. I actually really like these shoes as they have amazing shock absorbing capability's with the "Charged cushioning foam" which still provides the runner with plenty of ground feel which encourages the runner to use the mid foot and toes more. The collar and tongue are very minimalist as the manufacturer used as little material as possible which helps the ankle feel as free as possible.
Because it was quite cold I decided to wear something that was going to keep me warm but not weigh me down...
AND SO THE TIGHTS RETURN
Seriously I actually love these I need to get more the fact they can both be breathable and insulating make them amazing to do exercise in.
This just left the shirt and this is what I went with. Just a simple no distractions Reebok shirt which I stretchy and soft making it perfect for running, however it does collect sweat quite well and gets a little bit heavier which you do notice halfway through a run however you do get used to it.
How did the run go?
During the first 10 mins of the run it was all downhill and on a tarmac surface which made it quite pleasant this was until I reached the off road stage. Little to my knowledge but this would take up around 90% of my journey...
And it had rained through the previous night and the day before...
So here I was running on.. no wait "IN" very slippery mud wearing running shoes designed for the road. I found myself having to think about every stride and where my foot was going to land. For some unknown miracle I didn't fall over once.
So in the future I might need to take into account into the surface that I am running on in relation to the weather to determine what I wear on my feet.
